Access Issues

If you are experiencing access issues, try clearing your browser's cache and restarting your browser. 

OpenAthens does not support Internet Explorer. All other major browsers are supported (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari).  

 

Resource Restrictions

Some resources are only available to specific NOAA staff due to license restrictions. When you are accessing a resource in OpenAthens that you do not have access you will see the following screen:

Resource restriction screen. You will see when unable to access a resource. 

Contact the library via the "Contact your Institution" button, and make sure to copy and paste the error details that are provided as that will assist in troubleshooting and/or providing you access to the resource via Inter Library Loan.

Trouble Using OpenAthens on a Person Device (phone laptop)

With NOAA's rollout of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requirements, NOAA staff may experience difficulty logging into OpenAthens as a result. The NOAA Library staff will try to assist you as best as possible but our recommendation would be to use your government furnished equipment for the surest form of access.

Unable to use Single Sign On?

If you are a NOAA staff member, with an @noaa.gov email address and are unable to use NOAA's Single Sign On we can provide you access to OpenAthens via an Alma account.
