Advanced Tools

When conducting research, there are a number of tools available to assist in streamlining the process. The tools on this page are organized by the phase of the research they can be used. Some of these tools are web-based and others require installation. Please note that these tools may require the ability to work in R or line office IT approval.

CiteSource (Shiny App)
CiteSource allows for the analysis of research sources and search methodologies by comparing results that overlap.
litsearchr
litsearchr is an R package and also has a web-based application. litsearchr has a variety of functions, including the ability to pull keywords from a set of documents and create network maps of those keywords. It is primarily useful for search strategy development.
RevTools
RevTools is an R package and web-based application. It has a variety of functions aimed at streamlining different parts of the evidence synthesis process. It includes functions for deduplication, topic modeling, and article screening.
SWIFT-Review
SWIFT-Review is a free desktop-based application designed for topic modeling, search strategy, and screening.

CitationChaser
CitationChaser is a web-based application. When a list of articles is uploaded, the application automatically locates each article's references and citing articles.
RevTools
RevTools is an R package and web-based application. It has a variety of functions aimed at streamlining different parts of the evidence synthesis process. It includes functions for deduplication, topic modeling, and article screening.
Publish or Perish
Publish or Perish is a free desktop-based application. It retrieves and analyzes academic citations from a variety of sources, including Google Scholar and PubMed.

ASySD
ASySD is a web-based application that deduplicates references.
bibfix
bibfix is an R package that helps users repair and enrich bibliographic data.
RevTools

SWIFT-Active Screener
SWIFT-Active Screener is a web-based application to screen articles for systematic review. This application requires a login, which can be obtained through the NOAA Central Library (library.reference@noaa.gov).
