Now that we’ve solved the case of what, why, and how of persistent identifiers, please find some additional information to add to your case file before you close it.
PIDs Expanded
International Generic Sample Numbers (IGSNs)
The IGSN preserves the identity of a sample even as it is moved from lab to lab and as data appear in different publications, thus eliminating ambiguity that stems from similar names for samples from the earth.
Research Activity Identifier (RAiD)
This future looking PID is a global registry dedicated to research projects. RAiD provides a system to store, update, share, and link project information across the research community.
New PARR language
Heads up! The Public Access to Research Results (PARR) has been updated and has new requirements related to PIDs, including the requirement for NOAA and funded authors to obtain an ORCiD.
Thank you for helping the NOAA Library to solve the case of Persistent Identifiers!
