You’re not crazy to think that all these PIDs are connected. We lay it all out below.

How PIDs Interconnect

When using ORCIDs, DOIs, and ROR IDs, we can see the activity and relationships between people, their research, and the organizations they are affiliated with.

This makes research and scholarly resources more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

  • ORCIDs included in DOI metadata identify the people involved in the object the DOI is identifying.
  • DOIs included in an ORCID record identify the works a person has produced.
  • ROR IDs included in ORCID records identify the organizations an individual is affiliated with.
  • ROR IDs included in DOI metadata identify the organizations involved in the existence of the object the DOI is identifying.

It's not Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a lead pipe, it's Jennifer Fagan-Fry in the library with a DOI! Join our femme fatale for a webinar on PIDs and learn how it’s all interconnected - she won’t lead you astray.
