Per Ebook Central: Starting May 1, 2025, the Ebook Central platform will begin to prioritize Electronic Publications (EPUBs), making EPUB the default display format in the online reader instead of PDF. This EPUB Preferred initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to create a more accessible, user-friendly experience on the platform - especially for readers using assistive technologies.

  • Why EPUBs? EPUB is a responsive, flexible format that adapts to different screen sizes, supports interactive features, and works more effectively with screen readers. It also aligns with evolving accessibility standards and legislation.
  • What does this mean for NOAA users? Users will continue to enjoy a seamless reading experience, now with added flexibility to switch between EPUB and PDF with our online reader. Those referencing specific page numbers in instructional materials may see some differences, as EPUB’s reflowable (responsive) format adapts to screen size.
  • What do NOAA users have to do? No action is required - this change will happen automatically on May 1.

Remember to use Single-Sign On (with CAC+Pin) to access our Ebook Central platform and it's 32,000+ titles!
