The NOAA Library has promoted NOAA's work within and without the agency through the library Seminar Service since 1992 with over 1560 seminars and counting! This service has grown over the years and went completely virtual during the Covid-19 pandemic - but what actually is this service? What does it do? 

The library Seminar Service empowers NOAA speakers to present on any topic that is within their work purview and within NOAA's mission. We are a stage for the public and NOAA community to discover the work of NOAA! The library functions as the host, setting up the logistics on our webinar platform, Vimeo, advertising the presentation, and working the technical aspects during the live event. Now you can focus on your talking points and leave the chat, question moderation, and technical issues to us! While sometimes the library hosts presentations by our fellow librarians on topics of interest to the whole of NOAA, these are few and far between compared to the other hosted NOAA presentations. 

WHO can present with us? Any NOAA staff member! Contract or federal - we are focused on sharing the work of NOAA's researchers, scientists,  experts, and more. 

WHY present? Presenting is an excellent way to share your work with a larger audience, especially our public stakeholders, but it's also a way to network! You may be working on something very similar to a colleague in another agency, academic institution, or even within NOAA and with a presentation you can spark an opportunity to collaborate, new research or knowledge sharing.

HOW do you present with the library? Simple! 

  1.  Visit our webpage: https://library.noaa.gov/seminars/presenting
  2.  Identify a time that works for you and the library via our library event calendar 
  3.  Fill out the Google interest form
  4.  Receive an email from library.seminars@noaa.gov confirming your seminar date and setting up logistics!

HOW do you advertise? We email all NOAA! We post on our LinkedIn, X, and Upcoming Seminar webpage AND we cross-post on the NOAA Science Seminar Series listserv/calendar. 

WHERE do the seminar recordings go? If recorded they go to the NOAA Library YouTube Channel!

CAN I have the library take over my seminar series? We can talk about it - our seminar team is small, but mighty! We work with several series already (Citizen Science, EBM/EBFM, Ocean Exploration) and would be happy to discuss your needs and how we can help, if possible.

  • We do not host internal meetings, events excluding NOAA-wide participation, or non-NOAA mission topics
  • You must have supervisory approval to present publicly
  • We require signed privacy forms to record any event 
  • We have a limit of 8-10 seminars a month - we point you to the lovely folks who host the NOAA Science Seminar Series listserv to find another host if timing doesn't work out!
