Citizen Science, also called “community science” or “participatory science” is all about getting the public involved in collaborating to address real-world problems. NOAA has always had a rich tradition in supporting collaborate works, and NOAA Office of Education helps to manage a Citizen Science Community of Practice, with coordinating a catalog of projects, and representing NOAA in broader efforts.
Without volunteers, citizen science wouldn't happen! Meet the citizen scientists supporting NOAA’s mission.
NOAA Office of Education and NOAA Library partner each month to host a Citizen Science Seminar. Our first seminar in this series was February 2024 and while we usually only host one Citizen Science Seminar a month, for this year’s Citizen Science month we are bringing you two seminars!
Join us:
- April 17th at 1 pm ET to learn about Increasing the educational impacts through citizen science.
- April 29th at 1 pm ET join us to learn about Fostering School-Based Citizen Science.

Citizen Science Month was founded by SciStarter and Arizona State University School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS), and thanks to support over the years from the National Institutes of Health, the National Library of Medicine, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, SciStarter and Arizona State University have scaled the program globally, supported a network of more than 1,000 public libraries, and increased the public’s awareness of and engagement in scientific research.
