This Valentine’s Day we are asking you to “Be Mine” by transitioning your library resource access method to Single-Sign-On (SSO) via OpenAthens.

How will the transition impact your access to electronic resources?

You will be required to access electronic resources by logging in through the following locations:

  • The Library catalog

The library catalog contains physical and electronic materials available to all NOAA staff, including SSO enabled resources. Electronic resources that are enabled with OpenAthens in the library catalog will have the following note of NOAA Single-Sign-On Required

With the library catalog you can login to OpenAthens either directly when you enter the site or when you access a SSO enabled resource during a browsing session.

  • The Library’s A-Z Database page

The library’s A-Z page contains a list of NOAA-wide resources and databases subscribed to by the NOAA Library, including SSO enabled resources.

All SSO enabled resources are labeled with a icon.

  • Publisher pages

For OpenAthens enabled resources, NOAA Staff can access NOAA Library electronic resources directly from the publisher websites such as ScienceDirect or Science (AAAS).

Publisher sites will vary, but in general you will (1) login using their site's Institutional Login (2) search for NOAA Library when prompted to search to select your affiliated organization.

The library holds Wednesday trainings at 12pm ET and will specifically cover OpenAthens on a rotating basis. You can view the training schedule or request training on our website.
