The NOAA Institutional Repository (NOAA IR), maintained by the NOAA Central Library, is a digital library of scientific literature produced and/or funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The publications included in the NOAA IR range from technical memorandum and journal articles to lesson plans and images. The repository has been created in fulfillment of the NOAA Plan for Increasing Public Access to Research Results which was issued in response to the White House Office of Science and Technology (OSTP) Memorandum Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Research (PARR) issued 2013 February 22. The repository is separated into curated collections and offers a number of facets to narrow search results and all documents are full text.
All peer-reviewed materials (journal articles and NOAA series publications) published after October 1, 2015 by NOAA employees (both federal and contract workers) or research funded by NOAA are required to be included in the repository. Any items published before this date will be considered for inclusion on a case-by-case basis. For a more detailed list of documents being accepted into the repository please see the NOAA IR Document Policy (requires a noaa.gov email address to view).
All documents submitted to the NOAA IR must be Section 508 compliant. For more information about document accessibility and Section 508, please visit the library's Subject Guide on Section 508.
NOAA authors- federal employees and contractors- may submit their publications for inclusion in the Institutional Repository through the NOAA Institutional Repository Submission Page. Authors who received NOAA funding and do not have a NOAA.gov email address may submit their publications by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
